If you’re like most of my readers, you are a woman who sincerely wants to please God. You’ve spent some time in church and know the basics of what it means to be a Christian, and you may even have a picture of what the ideal Christian woman looks like. In your heart of hearts, you long for an intimate relationship with Jesus that fills your life with joy and purpose.

God is not concerned with your bottom line. He's focused on your journey toward the finish line.

But you’re overwhelmed by ALL. THE. THINGS. Laundry. Homework. Church events. Healthy eating. Spring cleaning. Couponing. Losing weight. Add to that the lengthy list of spiritual do’s and don’ts and all the ways you feel like you fall short… it’s enough to make you want to crawl under the covers and not come out until kingdom come.

Does This Sound Like You?

Be honest:

  • Do you feel burdened by everything you need to do to please God and others?
  • Do you fear the important things are falling through the cracks?
  • Do you worry your best efforts aren’t good enough?

If so, you’re not alone. All of us have felt like this.

I Know How You Feel

I know what it’s like to feel like God is watching and judging me for all the mistakes I’m making. For years I tried to be the Proverbs 31 Woman, to wake up early, spend an hour reading the Bible, keep my house spotless, make everything from scratch, and still be cheerful and go-lucky. But I failed miserably, and I knew something was missing. Something more. Something deeper.

As a recovering perfectionist, I wanted God to be pleased with me. But it wasn’t until I came face-to-face with my need for God’s grace that I realized I can never secure God’s favor and, more importantly, I don’t have to: in Jesus, I am preapproved, loved by God, and accepted. The joyful, purposeful life I long for doesn’t come from doing more; it flows from resting in the finished work of Jesus at the cross and spending time with Him in worship and adoration.

So here I am just starting to follow you. I hope to be encouraged throughout the relationship. I am a mother of six(all grown and gone), grandmother of twenty two, a minister and pastor in the Church of the Nazarene with a struggling marriage of ten years come September 24,2015. I have a pup who loves me and I love immensely given to me by the children last year. He will be one year October 18th, Prince is his name. I have many discouraging moments, days, weeks, months but God through His Spirit and Word brings me back. Well that’s enough about me. Pray for me and I will pray for all I come in contact with.

Dear Brittany, I’m not sure what kind of thoughts torment you, but Jesus wants to set you free. He is the Truth, and He wants to draw you to yourself. Continue to seek Him and bring your thoughts to Him. When you find yourself thinking a lie, a half-true, or something that you know is from the pit of hell, immediately take it captive and make it submissive to Christ. When I dealt with ungodly thoughts, 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 were a great encouragement to me. The One who calls you is faithful, and He will help you overcome these thoughts. Much love, Asheritah

I have been doing your 31 day Bible Study, even though I already have a set quiet time, and it has been wonderful. It amazes me how God speaks through someone else’s words! Thank you. The only problem is I did NOT get week 3. I got Weeks 1 and 2 and just got week 4, but never got week 3. Can you help me?
