Do you struggle with worry, overwhelm, or anxiety? This prayer for peace of mind will help redirect your thoughts to our heavenly Father and fill you with His peace and stillness instead…
“Did you read the email?”
The look in his eyes said it all.
“No,” I responded cautiously.
He summarized it quickly, explaining how this one note would change our lives in ways we had never imagined.
In just a few seconds, life can go from normal, even cheerful, to disastrous. Your stomach drops and you get lightheaded as everything changes in an instant.
…It’s that phone call with the dreaded diagnosis.
…It’s the policeman on your doorstep.
…It’s the finality of the words, “I’m leaving.”
And let’s be honest: as terrifying as each of those scenarios are, it doesn’t take a life-altering event to spin us into panic. Something as common as losing our purse or getting called into the boss’ office can be enough to send us into a tizzy.
So how do we respond when life throws us a curve ball?
The best way, friends, is by turning our thoughts and our attention to Jesus. Reminding ourselves of what is true about Him, about us, and about our situation, and entrusting the situation to Him.

A Prayer for Stillness When Life Is Rushed
And the good news is that we don’t even need a long or fancy prayer to do this. Sometimes a simple “Help me, Jesus” is enough. And in fact, Scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit helps us when we don’t know what to pray:
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Romans 8:26 (ESV)
Other times, a prayer based on Scripture can remind us of those truths we need as we give our situation to the Lord.
Instead of allowing our minds to wander into the land of “What ifs,” we can surrender ourselves and our lives through a quick prayer for peace of mind, like the one below:
Lord God, I wasn’t expecting this, but I believe that You are still in control, and You are close to me even in this moment (Psalm 46:1). Thank You that before any of this even happened, You already knew it all, and You will provide a way through this (Psalm 23:4). Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard me from dwelling on disastrous possibilities, and plant my feet firmly on what is true (Phil 4:6-8). Help me to trust You even in this hard place, and give me your perfect peace as I fix my mind on You (Isaiah 26:3). No matter what ends up happening, I believe You will use it for good (Jeremiah 29:11), to make much of Jesus and to make me more like Jesus (Romans 8:28-29). I trust You. I love You. Amen.
No matter what email you receive today, what phone call or conversation, my prayer for you is that you will fix our eyes on Jesus and allow His peace to flood your heart and your mind.
He’s big enough to handle this.
And He will.
Because He is enough.
