So much of our lives are spent staring at closed doors…
Sometimes I spend an inordinate amount of brain power trying to come up with plans of how I’ll succeed in life. You know, make my parents proud, leave a legacy for my kids, do something worthwhile with these fleeting moments. And more often than not, I work myself in a tizzy, going going going nonstop, pushing myself to be more productive only to come face-to-face with a closed door.
And then I’m reminded by Him, ever so gently, softly, quietly, that He holds my future. He knows my path. He’s already gone before me and He’ll guide me every step of the way.
I need only to be still and rest in His love.
And He will open the doors.
Like the career advancements He gave Joseph. Like the many battles He won for the Israelites. Like the opportunities laid at the feet of Esther, Nehemiah, and others living in exile. Like the wildfire spread of the Gospel through the first-century world. He will open doors. HE will.
Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.
Like the church of Philadelphia, when we feel like we’re at the end of our strength and we’re doing all we can to just keep hold tight to His Word… when it seems like we’ve reached the end of ourselves, God swings wide the door.
And when God opens a door, no one can shut it.
So why are you so frantic, o my soul? Why so worked up within me?
Put your hope in God and rest in Him. He will open doors at the right time. You need only to be still. And wait on the Lord.
