Do you ever wake up in the morning with a song on your mind?
It happens to me all the time. Sometimes it’s a great song that I want to hum throughout the day, and other times it’s not (a number of VeggieTales songs come to mind, thank to my toddler).
If you’re looking for a song to kick-start your morning or a few new songs to add to your private time of worship with the Lord, here are a few of my favorite songs of worship.
Songs of Adoration
A great way to start any time of worship is to focus our hearts on the One who deserves all honor, praise, and adoration. We get so wrapped up in the here and now that we often forget the present reality that’s occuring this very moment in the throneroom of heaven as angels fall prostrate before the Holy One. These songs help us remember.
- How Great Thou Art
- Holy, Holy, Holy
- Lion of Judah (Robin Mark)
- Worthy Is the Lamb Who Was Slain (Shane & Shane)
Songs of Confession
When we sing songs of adoration to the King of Kings, we remember all He is and all we are not. And this leads us, without fail, into a time of confessing His holiness and our unholiness. Our songs of confession are not smeared with condemnation but rather the assurance of forgiveness and the hope of Jesus Christ.
- Lord, I Need You (Matt Maher)
- Kyrie Eleison (Leigh Nash & Friends)
- Wonderful, Merciful Savior (Women of Faith)
Songs of Spiritual Rededication
There are times when I realize how lax I’ve become in my walk with Jesus, and I want to reaffirm my commitment to Him and ask Him to keep me faithful. These songs help me do just that.
- Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (Sufjan Stevens)
- Holy Spirit – Live (Kari Jobe, Codi Carnes)
- Be Thou My Vision (Ascend the Hill)
Songs for Spiritual Victory
Have you ever struggled with a sin that seemed to trap you no matter how hard you’ve tried to break free? I have, and praise God He has set me free. During those months of doing spiritual battle, these songs were lifelines for me.
- Before the Throne of God Above (Selah)
- Man of Sorrows (Hillsong)
- Boldly I Approach (Rend Collective)
A Few Playlists for Different Times of Worship
If you’re looking for a few playlists that already have compiled songs by topic or style, here are a few of my favorite. I listen to various ones depending on my focus in worship:
