Learning to Dwell Deeply: An Invitation to Spend Time with God

If you’re anything like me, you have every good intention of delving into the Word of God and basking in His presence. You really WANT to spend time with God.

You may briefly entertain visions of sitting in your overstuffed arm chair in front of your window, snuggling up with your Bible and java in the wee hours of the morning, and making time with Godfinishing your quiet time while the first rays of sunshine creep over the horizon and you hear the pitter-patter of little feet down the hallway.

But your reality more closely resembles mine: grass-stained jeans, spaghetti-crusted dishes, an 8-to-5 job, cranky children, an alluring facebook feed, demanding schedules, and a host of other things all clamoring for my attention.

My Bible sits unattended on the shelf, and I divert my eyes until I finish one more thing, telling myself I’ll do better tomorrow.

Sound familiar?

Deep down inside, I yearn for the discipline to sit and listen to Jesus. I want to say, with David:

One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.
~Psalm 27:4

Does that resonate with you? Do you, too, want to live in the presence of the Lord, admiring Him, worshiping Him, seeking Him?

Then I invite you to join me in a quest to live beneath the surface level by dwelling in God’s presence. At Jesus’ feet, we will learn what it means to love others recklessly and to live life fully. In His presence we will wrestle in prayer for our families and communities. And being filled up with the Holy Spirit we will then pour into others.

Friends, He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask for or imagine when we allow Him full access to our lives. Don’t let one more thing crowd out The Most Important Thing. Let us become women who seek one thing alone: fellowship with Jesus. And from that one thing, we will live lives of eternal significance.
