When it comes to spiritual warfare, I didn't quite know what I believed growing up. I mean, yeah, I thought it must be real. But some Christians I looked up to rarely acknowledged the forces of darkness, while others seemed to blame them for every flat tire and blown diaper. I found myself wondering what approach God would have me take.

I found great wisdom in C. S. Lewis' cautioning words: “There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them.”

The solution, then, is neither to ignore dark spiritual forces nor to obsess about them. Rather, Scripture calls us to fix our eyes on Jesus our Victor, the author and perfecter of our faith, and to fill our minds with truth as our first and primary weapon against the enemy (see Hebrews 12:1-3 and 2 Corinthians 10:5). As I've navigated my own spiritual battles over the past two decades of walking with God, that's what I've tried to do: keep my eyes on Jesus, and fill my mind with His truth.

So that's what I humbly offer you in these episodes. May we learn to stand in the finished work of Jesus as we put on the armor He has so graciously given us! For one day, we will finally exchange our battle armor for brilliant wedding clothes and step into an eternity of joy, peace, and rest with Him.
