Are you exhausted? Sad? Overwhelmed?
I have good news for you: joy is awaiting you.
No gimmecks. No guilt-trips. No adding to your to-do list.
You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
~ Psalm 16:11
So often we can feel like spending time with God is helpful but just doesn’t fit into our schedules. And perhaps many of us are overcommitted and running on empty and need to repent of some wrong priorities in our lives. In fact, I know many of us are.
But abiding in Christ is not just another task on our to-do list. Abiding in Christ is the very source of joy.
And while reading the Bible is a wonderful way of hearing His voice (read what I think of it here and here), it is not the only way. In fact, for thousands of years before the Guttenberg press, most people weren’t even able to read the Bible. And there was no shame in that, because they found other ways of abiding in Christ. Ways that perhaps you and I should become familiar with.
I’m in a season when finding a few moments of quiet every day to read the Bible is a precious luxury. And while I will always remain committed to the importance of the Bible as God’s revealed Word to us, I am also eager to find more ways to abide in Christ–even when reading the Bible isn’t an option.
Because friends, guilt and shame are from the devil. Let’s just call it what it is. It’s one of his favorite tricks to keep us from the Father.
So this fall, let’s not let anything get between us and our precious Savior. Let’s throw aside everything that hinders us and pursue a close walk with Him–whatever that looks like in this season of life.
I want to explore this topic further, fleshing out what this looks like in my life and in others’. And I’d like to invite you to join me.
Starting October 1, I will be writing every day on this topic of Abiding in Christ–when reading the Bible isn’t an option. I am so NOT the expert on this, but I know the heart of God is to have His children draw close to Him in every season of life, and I want that for me and for all of you.
I hope you will join me for a month of exploring what abiding in Christ looks like for 21-century overwhelmed women. The easiest way to make sure you get the posts is to subscribe to the blog by e-mail by clicking the link or using the handy dandy box in the sidebar. When you do, you’ll get my free eBook Dwell Deeply: 25 Resources to Deepen Your Relationship with God. So, are you in? Grab a mug of coffee or hot chocolate each day and let’s talk about what walking with God looks like in our lives. And don’t forget to invite a friend. Good conversation is always so much better when it’s shared over a hot beverage with new friends.
